3、orthPoleregion,enablescientiststofurtherunderstandtheprocessofchangesinseaiceandoceancurrentsandexpandknowledgeabouttherapidenvironmentalchangesintheArcticOceananditsecologicalresponse.ItwillalsoprovidedatasupportforeffectivelycopingwiththeimpactofglobalclimatechangeonChina,theministrynoted.China,s1

4、3thscientificexpeditiontotheArcticOceanhasreachedtheNorthPoleregion.PTheexpeditionteamsetsailfromShanghaionJuly12.Theyareexpectedtotravelnearly15,500nauticalmiles(28,700kilometers)beforereturningtoShanghaiinlateSeptember.TheprojectwillfocusonthecentralsectionofthePacificArcticRegionandtheGakkelRidge

5、.Researchersarescheduledtoperformahostoftaskssuchaslong-termobservationofkeyenvironmentalelements,geologicalandgeophysicalsurveysofGakkelRidge,atmospheric,seaice,marineandsubsurfaceenvironmentalsurveys,aswellasinvestigationsofbiomes,resourcesandpollutants.TheChineseresearcherswillalsoworkwiththeirpeersfromcountriesincludingRussiaandThailandonrelevantprojects.
