1、Chinals1stlzero-altitude,astronomicalobservatoryputintouseUpdated:2023-08-29()Chinasfirst,zero-altitudeastronomicalobservatorybeginsoperating.PhotoZWeChataccountofOpticsValleyofChinaChina,sfirstzero-altitudeastronomicalobservatory,theMuztagataAstronomicalObservatory,wasrecentlyusedintheXinjiangUygur
2、autonomousregion.TheobservatorybuildingwasindependentlydevelopedandconstructedbyChinaConstructionThirdEngineeringBureauGroupCoandwillcontinuetosupporthigh-altitudescientificresearch.ThecompanyisbasedintheEastLakeHigh-techDevelopmentZone(alsoknownasOpticsValleyofChina,orOVC).Theobservatory,withatotal
3、constructionareaofaround150squaremeters,islocatedneartheKunlunMountains*thirdhighestpeak,theMuztagataRange,makingastronomicalobservation,lodging,andadministrativetasksfeasible.Usingthisobservatory,astronomerswillconductobservationsandresearchinfieldssuchascosmology,starformationandevolution,galaxies
4、,andactivegalacticnuclei.Furthermore,theyareexpectedtocarryouthigh-resolutionopticalimagingobservations,takingadvantageoftheexcellentatmosphericvisibilityconditionsaroundtheobservatory.,Theatmosphericpressureandoxygenconcentrationatthemountaintopisonlyabout55percentofthatontheplain/*saidYeZhiwu,depu
5、tydirectoroftheHigh-AltitudeHumanSettlementEngineeringResearchCenterattheChinaConstructionInstituteofAdvancedTechnology.nThismeansthatastronomersworkinginsuchhigh-altitudeareaswillbeexposedtoaharshenvironmentwithlowpressure,lowoxygenconcentrations,lowtemperatures,andstrongultravioletradiation,*headd

7、AcademyofSciences,anddevelopedtheobservatorybuildingusingthepressurized-enc1osuretechnology.Researchersinthebuildingswillfeellikebeinginthezero-altitudeareas,hencetheobservatorysname.Thearchitecturalblueprintofthebuildingwasmeticulouslycraftedtooptimizetheproductivityandwell-beingofscientificprofessionals,particularlythosewhospendprolongedperiodsattheobservatory.
