2、idtolateeighteenthcentury.However,somecriticsareskepticalregardingthelegitimacyandaccuracyofthememoir.TheyclaimthattheChevalierdistortedorinventedmanyeventsinthememoirtogivehislifetheappearanceofglamourtomakeitseemmoreexcitingthanitreallywas.Forexample,inhismemoirtheChevalierwritesthatwhilelivinginS
3、witzerland,hewasverywealthy.Itiscertainthathespentagreatdealofmoneythereonpartiesandgambling;however,evidencehasrecentlybeenuncoveredsuggestingthattheChevalierborrowedlargesumsofmoneyfromaSwissmerchant.CriticsthusarguethatiftheChevalierhadindeedbeenasrichashewritesinhismemoir,hewouldnothaveneededtob
